Located in downtown Aiken, SC, SRS Museum visitors can experience life at the Savannah River Site and learn more about South Carolina’s role in winning the Cold War.
The SRS Museum will be opening a new gallery in October 2022 sponsored by the National Nuclear Security Administration. The Defense, Deterrence, and Discovery gallery will dive into the Cold War missions undertaken at the Savannah River Site (formally Savannah River Plant), and give viewers a better understanding of the facilities and processes critical to tritium production. Visitors can also explore the museum's “6,000 Stories” gallery, which details the relocation of residents from the former towns of Dunbarton, Ellenton, and Meyer’s Mill to make way for the 310 square mile plant. The museum offers several other exhibits that explore Cold War history, nuclear technology, and the exciting initiatives of STEM careers.
Even after seven decades, the Savannah River Site remains one of the most influential entities in the Central Savannah River Area, and is one of the CSRA’s largest employers. Come discover its impact on our community from its mid 20th century origins through today.
