The American Nuclear Society arranged for Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to issue a proclamation declaring October 20-24, 2014, as Nuclear Science Week. Educators, companies and other Illinois citizens will join the national celebration by honoring nuclear science professionals and increasing awareness of nuclear science and technology.

Despite the dramatic positive contributions of nuclear science and technology, the public remains largely uninformed about the ways in which it has improved the quality of life.  This unawareness has impeded the introduction of nuclear technologies that save lives, create jobs, and address climate change. Nuclear Science Week is working to inform the public how nuclear is improving the lives and safety of people around the world via nuclear medicine, food irradiation, propulsion, security screenings, and other research and development applications.

Illinois public officials, advocates, and Nuclear Science Week, urge all citizens to be aware of the benefits of nuclear in your daily lives.
